Description

Company Description

Haraya is a new Philippines-based nonprofit reimagining education and environmental stewardship in isolated and/or underprivileged communities. We are building community-run learning centers that blend the Reggio Emilia philosophy with local knowledge and ecological resilience. From coastal classrooms to coral restoration, Haraya aims to empower youth and adults to become caretakers of both land and future. Our sustainable model incorporates afterschool programs, eco-tourism, and research to support long-term operations.

Haraya is scaling its environmental initiatives in coastal Philippines to not only protect, but actively regenerate, critical marine ecosystems. We are seeking passionate and skilled experts to join our volunteer team with the potential to lead and shape our long-term conservation strategy in the following key areas:

Sea Turtle Conservation Specialist

Location: Luzon (seasonal, on-site, part-time)

Future Scope: Head of Sea Turtle Conservation

Role Focus:

  • Monitor and document nesting and foraging populations
  • Engage local communities in co-stewardship
  • Develop and refine site-based conservation strategies
  • Collaborate on publications and research
  • Lead outreach and volunteer training

Coral Restoration and Research Specialist

Location: Coron, Palawan (seasonal, on-site, part-time)

Future Scope: Director of Coral Nurseries and Research

Role Focus:

  • Design and implement coral nursery projects (nurseries planned for late 2025)
  • Assess reef health and lead field surveys
  • Develop restoration protocols in partnership with research institutions
  • Engage dive volunteers and eco-tourism groups
  • Contribute to scientific studies and knowledge-sharing networks

Mangrove Specialist

Location: Bicol and Coron (seasonal, on-site, part-time)

Future Scope: Director of Mangrove and Coastal Ecosystems

Role Focus:

  • Conduct mangrove mapping and health assessments
  • Design community-led planting and restoration programs
  • Integrate mangrove protection with local livelihood development
  • Collaborate with national and local government agencies
  • Develop monitoring systems and public education programs

Ideal Candidates (for all tracks)

  • Degree in Marine Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field
  • Strong fieldwork, research, and data management experience
  • Comfortable working in diverse and remote locations
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Bonus: Certifications (diving, conservation) and experience leading teams or community programs

These are not just seasonal roles — they are stepping stones into foundation-wide leadership. For qualified and committed candidates, we offer the opportunity to evolve these positions into foundational roles shaping Haraya’s marine conservation future, including program design, national advocacy, and site expansion.
