Description

  • Identifies, investigates and monitors air, land, noise and water pollution within the hospital.
  • Takes measurements and recordings where appropriate and interprets gathered data.
  • Takes formal and informal action to secure environmental improvement in appropriate cases.
  • Processes of applications for authorizations/permits under relevant legislation, including the inspection of premises, preparation of documentation, and the writing of authorization/permit conditions.
  • Re-inspects relevant premises to ensure compliance with conditions, and the carrying out of authorized processes/permits and making the necessary variations.
  • Identifies areas which would benefit from environmental improvement in terms of pollution reduction, preparation of such improvement strategies in conjunction with others, and their implementation.
  • Supports the implementation of the Council’s Air Quality Action Plan, together with ongoing assessment of air quality in the hospital and the implementation of any new air quality strategies.
  • Undertakes necessary work to ensure that all best value performance indicators, local performance indicators, and targets in the Divisional and Corporate Plans are complied with.
  • Carries out a satisfactory program of environmental monitoring, inspection and re-inspection ensuring that consistent action is taken.
  • Utilizes technical support staff to achieve this aim.
  • Liaises with consultants as required on all aspects of the section’s duties and responsibilities.
  • Other related tasks as assigned by the management.

Requirements

  • Must have completed the PCO Training conducted by a DENR-recognized training provider.
  • Must be officially accredited by the DENR-EMB as a designated Pollution Control Officer.
  • Experience in handling environmental permits, documentation, and inspections is a strong advantage.
