Description

Job Title: General Accountant

Location: Clark, Philippines (On-site)

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Salary: 50,000 – 65,000

Reports To: Finance and Admin Manager (Philippines)

Role Overview:

The General Accountant manages a range of accounting tasks, from basic bookkeeping to preparing financial reports. The General Accountant will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the company’s financial records are complete, accurate, and compliant with local regulations. The General Accountant will also be responsible for maintaining internal controls, managing tax filings, and working closely with cross-functional teams to drive financial efficiency and accuracy across the organization.


1. Financial Record Keeping

Maintain General Ledger: Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported in a timely manner.

Journal Entries: Record regular and adjusting journal entries (e.g., depreciation, accruals, prepayments) to reflect accurate financial performance.

Expense Tracking: Monitor and classify company expenses, ensuring proper documentation and categorization.

Fixed Assets Management: Track company assets, depreciation schedules, and ensure proper accounting treatment.


2. Financial Reporting and Analysis

Prepare Financial Reports: Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.

Balance Sheet Accounts Reconciliation: Reconciles key balance sheet accounts and maintains supporting schedules including Fixed Asset registers, Accruals, Pre payments, Stock, Intercompany accounts, Ageing of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable among others.

Financial Analysis: Analyze account balances and investigate trend and variances to report accurate financial results.


3. Bank and Account Reconciliation

Monthly Reconciliations: Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations to ensure consistency between company records and bank statements.

Investigate Discrepancies: Identify and resolve any discrepancies or irregularities in reconciliations, working with relevant departments to ensure timely adjustments.


4. Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)

AP Process: Ensure timely processing of vendor invoices, purchase orders, and payments. Verify that all expenses are appropriately documented and authorized.

AR Process: Oversee the invoicing process, track customer payments, manage overdue accounts, and ensure accurate revenue recognition.

5. Tax Compliance and Regulatory Reporting

BIR Compliance: Ensure timely preparation, filing, and payment of all tax obligations, including VAT, Expanded Withholding Tax (EWT), and corporate income taxes.

Compliance Reporting: Prepare necessary compliance reports required by government agencies such as the SEC, BIR, PEZA and other statutory bodies like SSS, PhilHealth and HDMF.

Payroll Processing: Oversee payroll processing, including computation of salaries, deductions (e.g., SSS, PhilHealth, PAG-IBIG), and remittances.

Working Environment & Conditions:

Office Setup:

  • Works in an office environment with occasional visits to other Philippine Company’s offices.
  • Availability to work full-time, Monday to Friday, with some flexibility for overtime when needed, especially during tax season or audit periods.


Team Collaboration: You will collaborate with the finance and operations team, and external partners such as auditors, government agencies and banks.

Requirements

Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.


Professional Experience:

  1. More than 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within a medium to large-sized company in the Philippines.
  2. Strong experience with financial reporting, tax filing, and general ledger accounting.
  3. Prior experience in the use of accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, SAP, or equivalent) is essential.


Knowledge of Philippine Taxation:

  1. Familiarity with local tax laws, BIR regulations, and statutory requirements in the Philippines.
  2. Experience with filing and compliance, particularly with VAT, corporate tax, and payroll taxes.
  3. Familiarity with PEZA rules, regulations and reporting requirements for Export locators.


Skills & Competencies:

Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling), and accounting systems. Experience with ERP systems in a production operations setting is a plus.

Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.

Attention to Detail: High degree of accuracy and attention to detail, ensuring error free financial reports and records.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present financial data clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

Organizational Skills: Highly organized, able to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.

Ethics and Integrity: Demonstrates strong ethics and maintains confidentiality of financial information.
