Attorney Editor - Primary Law Editorial:
Primary Law Attorney Editors are responsible for legal research, analysis, and writing to support the development and maintenance of Thomson Reuters’ legal information in all media. Members of this team are tasked with ensuring that published legal information contains and delivers premium legal content.
Primary Law Attorney Editors work collaboratively with colleagues in the United States, Canada, and across the globe to ensure Thomson Reuters customers have access to the most accurate, current, and appropriately annotated versions of US and Canadian law, including Judicial, Legislative, Regulatory, and Court Rules materials in all media. Attorney Editors must have sound editorial judgment, as they play a key role in ensuring the quality of our Editorial content.
About the role: Key Attorney Editor responsibilities include:
- Legal Research, Analysis, Validation, and Writing: Our Attorney Editors create and classify legal information in the form of headnotes, highlights, notes of decision, and other features and enhancements. Attorney Editors must be able to identify key legal issues in editorial materials while demonstrating competence in Westlaw navigation and on-line research tools.
- Editorial Responsibility: Members of this team must adhere to editorial publishing schedules and quality standards. They will verify their own work and that of other staff as required for accuracy and completeness, and they will ensure that the information is properly presented and organized. Attorney Editors must maintain and develop legal knowledge and skills training as needed to complete their work and stay current on legal trends and developments related to editorial responsibilities.
- Individual and Leadership Development: As a part of a larger team, Attorney Editors must participate in meetings and take part in the employee evaluation process (including self-evaluation and giving and receiving feedback). To be effective, Attorney Editors much must develop knowledge of Thomson Reuters Legal publications and products and those of competitors.
- Self-direction: Attorney Editors must prioritize their own work and understand the roles and responsibilities of each team member and how each role impacts production. Attorney Editors are required to demonstrate competence on company-specific systems necessary to perform job functions.

Codes Editorial: Codes Attorney Editors are responsible for maintaining and enhancing our legislative, regulatory, and court rules materials. Outstanding analytical skills to determine legislative and regulatory intent and to enhance content to help attorneys with their research, along with an eye for detail to maintain our high level of quality, are also important.
Cases Editorial: As a member of the Cases Editorial team, you may read and analyze court decisions and classify the decision or short summaries of each point of law in the decision for Westlaw and print. Alternatively, you may be responsible for analyzing and assigning value to cases or legislation references cited by a judge in their reasons for judgment. All roles on the Cases Editorial team require strong analytical and writing skills, productivity, and quality to maintain our world class judicial content. About You
You’re a fit for the role of Attorney Editor if you:
Have a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school or other equivalent, relevant legal training.
Are a self-starter with aptitude for legal research, writing, and analysis.
Have a keen eye for detail and established proof-reading skills in addition to being able to pivot your attention to address high priority updates with little notice.
Are an analytical thinker who uses logic and discretion to collaborate with global teammates to solve difficult problems where proof-reading alone cannot establish accuracy.
Are decisive with a focus on making quality decisions quickly.
Have the ability to interpret, analyze, organize, and communicate complex legal material.
Are comfortable with personal computers and familiar with word processing and online applications.
Can prioritize tasks and projects and pursue them with energy and drive.
Are a great teammate who will work successfully in a global and collaborative environment.
Are a strong, proactive, and assertive communicator who can speak and write clearly and effectively with all contacts, both in and outside Thomson Reuters, across the globe.
