Job Summary: The Project Manager for Electrical Construction will be responsible for managing a single electrical construction project from start to finish. This includes overseeing all project activities, managing suppliers and logistics, creating methodologies for hauling, coordinating testing and commissioning processes, and ensuring all technical documents are consolidated and up-to-date. The role is project-based, with the expectation of completing the project within the given timeframe and budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Planning & Execution:
- Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets for the specific project.
- Oversee all aspects of the project’s execution, ensuring the project stays on schedule, within budget, and meets quality standards.
- Lead the coordination of electrical construction activities, from design through to final delivery.
- Supplier & Vendor Management:
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of materials, equipment, and services.
- Manage procurement schedules and monitor the performance of suppliers to prevent delays and cost overruns.
- Ensure all contracts are in place and manage any vendor-related issues that arise during the project.
- Hauling and Logistics:
- Create and implement methodologies for transporting electrical equipment, materials, and components to and from the construction site.
- Oversee all logistics, ensuring that transportation is efficient, safe, and aligned with the project timeline.
- Resolve any transportation issues, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
- Technical Documentation Management:
- Consolidate and maintain technical documentation, including plans, drawings, schematics, and manuals, throughout the life of the project.
- Collaborate with engineers and technical teams to ensure that all technical documents are accurate, complete, and updated as needed.
- Ensure the project team has access to all required documentation and ensure it is aligned with project goals.
- Testing and Commissioning:
- Manage the testing and commissioning of electrical systems to ensure they meet project specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Develop testing schedules, coordinate resources, and ensure all test results are properly documented.
- Address any testing issues and ensure that all systems are fully operational before project completion.
- Risk Management & Safety:
- Identify potential project risks and implement mitigation strategies to address issues before they impact the project timeline or budget.
- Ensure that all project activities comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Foster a culture of safety and ensure safety protocols are followed on-site at all times.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead a team of engineers, subcontractors, and laborers, ensuring clear communication and collaboration throughout the project.
- Conduct regular progress meetings with the project team and provide regular updates to senior management and stakeholders.
- Ensure that the team remains focused, motivated, and productive while adhering to project goals and deadlines.
- Client Communication & Reporting:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the client, providing regular updates on project status, timelines, and potential challenges.
- Manage client expectations and address any concerns or questions promptly to ensure their satisfaction with the project outcome.
- Provide detailed progress reports to senior management and clients, including milestones, risks, and budget updates.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical construction project management, specifically in large-scale electrical projects.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, construction methods, and best practices.
- Proven experience in supplier and vendor management, including procurement and logistics.
- Familiarity with project management tools and software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, etc.).
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication and leadership skills to manage teams and clients effectively.
- In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and quality assurance practices in construction.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
- Experience with large electrical construction projects, such as power stations, substations, or industrial installations.
- Knowledge of electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or other electrical design software.
