Description
Position: Fire Alarm Designer
Number of hours: 20-40 hours/week
Schedule: PST
Take-offs:
- Perform detailed take-offs for fire alarm systems based on project specifications.
- Ensure compliance with standards and requirements per applicable codes and jurisdictions.
- Work on projects related to multi-family residential and commercial buildings.
- Contribute to new construction projects and tenant improvements.
Engineering & Design:
- Develop CAD designs for fire alarm systems, ensuring accuracy and adherence to specifications.
- Conduct necessary calculations for system components to ensure compliance and functionality.
- Prepare comprehensive submittals for review and approval by relevant authorities.
Consultancy:
- Provide consultancy services to support field technicians during the execution and application of designs.
- Ensure quality of work in the field and assist in maintaining project budgets.
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to address any design or installation challenges.
Requirement
- Must be able to design fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA standards, including but not limited to NFPA 70, 72, and 101.
- Must be able to interpret and apply applicable fire alarm requirements set forth by California Building Codes in both new and existing buildings, including but not limited to CBC, CEBC, CRC, CFC, and CHSC.
- Capable of completing calculations for electrical components using methods required/approved by NFPA.
- Proficient in AutoCAD for drafting and layout design of fire alarm systems.
- Must be able to complete design projects from start to finish with a strong focus on timelines and deliverables.
- Must be able to work professionally with minimal supervision, demonstrating strong organizational skills and consistency.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
- Capable of effective written and verbal communication.
- NICET Certification in Fire Alarm Systems is highly desirable.
- General understanding of how fire, communication, and other life safety systems may affect the requirements of fire alarm systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, contractors, and team members.
