ROLE SUMMARY

Our client is looking for an Estimator who will prepare quantified takeoffs and bid estimates for projects determined by the Chief Estimator to obtain work with a profitable margin.


WORK SCHEDULE: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time (12:00 AM – 9:00 AM Philippine Standard Time), follows Philippine holidays


POSITION TYPE: Full Time


WORK ARRANGEMENT: Remote


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Work with the Chief Estimator to determine what jobs to target and create and maintain a bid calendar
  • Prepare detailed takeoffs of work described in the specification targeted section
  • Address all work in the specification section either in the form of quantifying or as a clear exclusion
  • Read all specification sections applicable to our work, including any sections for alternates
  • Provide takeoffs for all applicable alternates
  • Read all addenda, scope of work sheets, bidders' question and answer, or other bid documents posted with the bid package
  • Call general contractors who requested bids from us for questions regarding scope, access, or logistics
  • Discuss means and methods for determining the scope of a design-build project
  • with the engineering firm if needed
  • Translate the takeoffs into estimates using the database and conditions library in Quick Bid
  • Obtain estimates on any unknown products or expensive products that could make or break a bid
  • Determine if there is a need to request MRP funds and make any applicable requests
  • Add supervision, equipment, per diem, engineering costs, mobilization costs, job trailer, sub-tier costs, or additional plugs as applicable to the job for private works project
  • Keep detailed notes in each condition of the condition assembly, any additional costs or substitution costs are added in the form of equipment or money
  • Use logs for review and project management budget determinations post-award
  • Create a bid proposal based on specification sections being bid and applicable exclusions
  • Maximize the description in the bid scope portion of the proposal, showing a clear understanding of the project and the scope to provide comfort to the general contractors that we have a complete and professional bid
  • Minimize exclusions to the extent necessary to protect the company from gray areas
  • Emphasize exclusions that are for work listed in the specification
  • Complete takeoff, pricing, and bid proposal one week prior to the bid date
  • Conduct a review of takeoff and pricing with the Chief Estimator before submitting the bid
  • Determine if Longshoreman Insurance is needed and notify the Chief Estimator if required for jobs that occur near a body of water
  • Qualify the bid by determining who all the general contractors are that are bidding on the job
  • Confirm during the bidding process the job as a general contractor and not as a subcontractor
  • Create and maintain logs of general contractors that are on the “do not bid” list and remove them from the list of qualified bidders
  • Send a “scope sheet” the day before the bid to all qualified general contractors that are bidding for projects over $1M
  • Perform the following on the day of the bidding:
  • Check job postings to look for new addenda or bid documents
  • Review any new documents and modify prices as needed
  • Review modifications with the Chief Estimator
  • Send out bids by fax or email 2 hours before bid time on public works jobs
  • Submit bids before the bid deadline at any time on the day of the bid (can be more than 2 hours) for private projects
  • Perform the following public works jobs:
  • Call or email for bid results as early as 2 hours after the bid opening, and no later than 24 hours after the bid opening.
  • Continue to call or email for bid results until results are obtained
  • Try to get results on alternate pricing, and if the price is running low, try to get information on the scope of work or exclusions
  • Send an email to the Chief Estimator with bid results whether its low or not
  • Archive folders of jobs that are not low
  • Turn in folders that were awarded to the Chief Estimator
  • Perform the following private works jobs:
  • Call or email for bid results 2 weeks after the bid date
  • Call or email all the qualified bidders once per week thereafter until bid results are obtained
  • Sell the job
  • Use best practices to secure a commitment from the awarded general contractor intended to get the scope of work once determined if the company was the low bidder
  • Notify the Chief Estimator, CEO, CFO, Project Managers, Controller, and General Superintendents of the bid amount, scope of work, location, estimated cost (CFO only), estimated start date, certified payroll (for public works), MRP and customer name for processing once new project bid was awarded
  • Note the assigned project manager from the CEO and get it set up with the Controller and CFO for accounting
  • Send the on-screen takeoff file to the assigned Project Manager using Project Express and email the Quick Bid file
  • Schedule a review with the assigned Project Manager to go over the bid and assumptions, including the scope of work, plugs, budgets, material quotes, and markups
  • Review the contract to ensure the contract amount is accurate and the scope of work is accurate about the bid scope
  • Flag any inconsistencies or missing exclusions for review by the Project Manager
  • Create an SOV for the assigned Project Manager, break it down by area or by floor, and review the contract for required general conditions


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in the related field is preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience in the commercial construction industry is ideal
  • Previous experience with blueprint reading
  • Proactive and has a keen eye for improving processes
  • Experience in a multi-client environment
  • Strong organization, oral and written communication skills
  • Analytical skills with particular attention to detail
  • Aptitude in data management, analytics, reporting preparation
  • Ability to function in an autonomous environment—independent worker, self-directed
