Description
We are seeking an experienced Application Support Engineer who is a well-rounded individual to be part of the Technology Solutions Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing application support within our production environment. Our ideal candidate will be an eager learner interested in gaining valuable experience in supporting complex investment management platforms and applications. This will include front-office investment systems, business support applications, and complex back-office data management and automation platforms. Responsibilities:
- Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Identifying, diagnosing, and fixing application-related issues. Debugging software, checking logs, and working with developers & IT teams to resolve issues.
- Monitoring & Maintenance: Continuously monitoring application performance using tools like Splunk, New Relic, or Nagios. Automating repetitive support tasks using scripts (Python, Shell, PowerShell, etc.).
- Customer & User Support: Working closely with development, QA, and DevOps teams to improve application performance.
- Platform Integrity & Monitoring: Taking ownership of the operation, monitoring, and integrity of the technology platform, including complex nightly data import processes from multiple external vendors.
- Incident & Problem Management: Participation in incident and problem management processes, ensuring resolution, root cause analysis, and effective communication.
- Support Coverage: Triage and escalation support within the broader technology team, including evenings and weekends on a rotation basis.
- Environment Stability: Providing oversight for the stability of the production environment within the change management process, ensuring policies are enforced.
- Relationship Building: Navigating the broader technology organization and building relationships with critical technology partners.
- Vendor Interface: Coordinating with external vendors and their technical support/development teams to resolve issues and implement strategic enhancements.
- Japan User Support: Providing support to Japan users and collaborating with global teams.
Requirements
Required Skills:
- Minimum 7 years of experience in financial services technology, ideally with a focus on investment management.
- Strong understanding of the SDLC, particularly in application testing, release control, and support.
- Experience supporting applications on AWS; Java proficiency preferred.
- Scripting experience in Unix and Windows (Python, Shell, PowerShell).
- Experience with Postgres SQL, Sybase, MS SQL Server, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with Enterprise Scheduling/workflow software (Autosys preferred).
- Experience working in DevOps and Agile environments.
- Knowledge of Atlassian tools, including JIRA and Confluence.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

- Networking Basics: DNS, TCP/IP, VPN, Firewalls.
- Cloud & DevOps: AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, Docker (optional but valuable).
- Monitoring Tools: Nagios, Splunk, Grafana, New Relic
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in technical support, software troubleshooting in Linux, or system administration.
- Certifications like:
1. ITIL Foundation (for IT service management).
2. Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals (if working with cloud-based applications).
3. AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (for cloud-based support).
4. SQL Certifications (for database support roles)
Job Location: Japan & JLPT N3 certification is Must
